Renovator sentenced for Colorado asbestos contamination

The crew chief in charge of asbestos removal at a Colorado high school has been sentenced to three months probation and six months in-home detention, and fined $40,000 for contaminating the building with asbestos. Joseph John Cannella had pleaded guilty to failing to follow state and federal regulations for removing asbestos during renovations at Fort Morgan High School.…

Group calls for mandatory asbestos inspections

Asbestos victims in Australia are calling for new laws which would require mandatory asbestos inspections for any renovations to buildings built before 1984. Barry Robson, president of the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia, says that the Kogarah Council near Sydney has already made these asbestos inspections mandatory and is calling for other areas of Australia to follow its lead.…

Auto industry delayed asbestos warnings by six years

Landmark $3M verdict awarded in mesothelioma lawsuit

A New Jersey woman has been awarded a $3.35 million verdict in a mesothelioma lawsuit brought against mining company R.T. Vanderbilt and dealers Hammill & Gillispie. Bonnie Parker filed the mesothelioma and asbestos lawsuit on behalf of her husband, Peter Hirsch, who died in April 2004, just 19 months after receiving a mesothelioma diagnosis.…
