Critics call for official’s firing over Minn. mesothelioma study

Several Minnesota state senators are calling for the firing of the state’s health commissioner for failing to release information about an increase in mesothelioma deaths among miners. The senators called on Gov. Tim Pawlenty to fire health commissioner Diane Mandernach for failing to disclose the results of a study into mesothelioma cases among workers in the state’s “Iron Range.”

Mesothelioma lawsuit alleges companies destroyed evidence

A Texas man has filed a mesothelioma lawsuit in Illinois against more than 100 corporations who he claims caused him to be exposed to asbestos. Allen Donely claims that he suffered asbestos exposure in the workplace and also from fibers carried home on his father’s clothing.

Asbestos diseases affecting broader segments of the population

A new study by an advocacy group for asbestos diseases says that younger patients and those with no history of asbestos exposure are being diagnosed with diseases like mesothelioma in increased numbers. Studies explore possible taconite-mesothelioma link

Reports of more than 50 recent mesothelioma cases among mining workers in Minnesota have prompted the state legislature to call for new investigations into the link between mesothelioma and on-the-job exposure to hazardous materials.
